The life in The Capitol is different from District 12 live because in the Capitol you have enough of everything and in District 12 you barely scrape by or you may even die of hunger or illness. In the Capitol you have many accesories and in District 12 you have coal dust as an accesorie and that's it.

This small and meaningful hand gesture is to show everyone that they are distinguished as friends more than enemys or people who are forced to be together.

It is hard for Katniss to trust Peeta because that is just how she is. She doesn't give her trust like tat and she just assumes that the more likeable he seems the more deadly he will be in the games.
